Social Media Explainers

One of my most rewarding experiences at Scripps News was pitching a vertical explainer series that was brand new to the brand at that point. I cross-posted these videos, adapting captions and graphics depending on the platform, and watched as they took off. This series gave us our first million viewed video on TikTok, brought in hundreds of thousands of new followers across all platforms and millions of interactions for the Scripps News Brand. I created new graphics, animations and techniques that became widely used in other vertical videos and introduced a new style to the Scripps News brand. So far, the series has earned over 5 million views on platforms that were previously below 10,000 followers. I have since continued to produce this style of video, now for Smithsonian Magazine.

Vertical Video Journalism

I wrote the script for these videos, created graphics, shot the content and edited them. I value being a multi-platform journalist, and understand the importance of reconstituting content for use across multiple platforms so we can meet the audience wherever they are, whether that be on a TV in a person’s home, or on social media. henever I shot a story for the linear side, I always try and figure out the best way to turn it in a vertical video.

Helping journalists create viral content

My favorite part of the day is when I get to collaborate with others. The best part of my job is uplifting those around me, and helping their work get seen. I work closely with many journalists and producers to turn their work into viral social content.
